Chelsea Buns!

Had a craving for chelsea buns (traditional English buns) awhile ago. The ones sold at Cedele were deeeelish! I decided to try my hand at baking some… it turned out really good except the base was burnt a little. Oops!!

Here’s the process! :)

Chelsea Buns Recipe:

Makes 12 buns.

225g/2 cups strong white flour

1/2 tsp salt

3 tbsp butter

1 1/2 tsp easy blend dried yeast

120ml/Half cup milk

1 egg, beaten

75g/Half cup of mixed dried fruit

2 1/2 tbsp chopped mixed peelĀ  (I grated an orange)

50g/Half cup light brown sugar

Clear honey to glaze

1) Preheat oven to 190 degrees C/ Grease a 18cm square tin pan Sift together flour and salt, rub in 2tsp of butter.

2) Stir in yeast and make a central well. Slowly add the milk and egg, stirring, then beat until the dough leaves the sides of the bowl clean.

3) Knead the dough until smooth. Place in an oiled bowl, cover and set aside until double in size. Transfer to a floured surface and roll it out to a rectangle 30 x 23cm.

4) Mix the dried fruits, peel and sugar. Melt the remaining butter and brush over the dough. Scatter over the fruit mixture, leaving a 2.5cm border. Roll up the dough from the long side. Seal the edges, and cut into 12 slices.

5) Place the slices, cut-sides up, in the greased tin. Cover and set aside until double in side. Bake for 30 minutes until a rich golden brown. Brush with honey and leave to cool slightly in the tin before turning out.

Bumble Bee Busy!

I hate to have a backlog of entries but it really can’t be helped. I doubt I can spend time trying out more complicated recipes for the months of May, June and July, as I am taking a summer class which is three times a week (or should I say was? The exam is in 2 weeks, and I still have an individual report, group report and a group presentation to complete by then, on top of exam revision!).

June and July would see myself embarking on a Channel News Asia internship under the E-News department! :) Very excited for it, so far the details I have are that I will be covering entertainment news

Meanwhile, the rest of the days are mostly meetings back in school (it doesn’t really feel like the summer hols), many events coming up that press for urgent actions, like marketing for Inspirar CIP project, programmes for Social Sci Camp, sponsorship for RunAbout08, Freshman Teambuilding Camp and organizing Worldview Youth Conference while being a facilitator for 2 Secondary School teams (as we are short of facis this year). Busy like a bumble bee; I am a huge workaholic!

Actually got a few recipes that I tried out the very first week after school’s officially out which I will post soon! Thanks to everyone who have been faithfully visiting this blog but so sorry that I haven’t found the time to upload as much as I like to.

Just set up a shopblog. Finally cleared my over-flowing closet and got a few items to sell- please visit it here: http://oohcheapclothes.livejournal.com

Guaranteed NOT to burn a hole in your pocket! ;

The weather is SO warm recently that I thought I almost had a heat stroke yesterday! I had to shower 4 times with cold water for some short respite from the heat!

Drink more water!
